A college basketball team from Leyland completed a domestic double when they were crowned South Ribble League and Cup winners.
The Worden Sports College U16 team were unbeaten on their way to securing the titles and the highlight was a tense encounter against local rivals Leyland St Mary's School.

After a good start by their opponents, Worden sprung into life and after the first quarter were ahead by three baskets.

As the teams continued to exchange points it was not until the final quarter until they used all their experience from Lancashire and English Schools competitions and were eventual winners by six baskets.

Among the key players throughout their campaign were Bradley Robertson, Stephen Postance and Martin Brierley.

Jason Barton, Jason Crocker and John Jarman were the driving force in the team while Blake Dennett and Sam Lowe helped bring the ball out as creative point guards.

Deklan Touissaint and Stephen Sharples also contributed to the team effort.

Head of PE at Worden College, Dan Blackledge said: "During the season all the boys played their part and it was apparent that this year the squad had much more depth and quality."
