Leyland Cricket Club will renew their bid to win the Northern League title on August 2 – and hope that they're not too far behind the leaders when battle recommences.
The Fox Lane outfit are currently second in the table after a comprehensive defeat of basement strugglers Fleetwood but they have no game on Saturday.

Instead several of their players will be on their annual trip to Malta before they face Darwen then Morecambe on successive days at the start of August.

David Makinson's men could find themselves as many as 21 points behind leaders Blackpool on Saturday night if results go against them but he said right now the focus is Malta.

He said: "Our trip to Malta will be a special one because it will be the first time we're going away since we joined with Leyland Motors.

"We will be there for seven days and will be going with five or six players from the first team, three or four from the second team and a few committee members and spectators.

"We will be 23 altogether and it will give us time to relax and think about our game.

"It's too early to predict how we're going to go in the league when we return because there are a lot of good sides and it will all be clearer after the next three or four games.

"It's unpredictable because teams are beating each other.

"There are some very good players we need to watch out for in our upcoming games against Darwen away on August 2 and Morecambe at home on August 3."
