Leyland Cricket Club captain David Makinson says he'll have clocked up a big phone bill from Malta on Saturday as he charts the progress of his team.
Makinson will be taking some of his students from Stockport Grammar School on their tour to the island but he admits his mind may occasionally stray to Leyland's top-of-the-table Northern League clash against Blackpool.

The 47-year-old has been in inspirational form this season but is confident the Fox Lane outfit will manage without him for one weekend.

He said: "I have every confidence in the side as Steve Pallett will take my place and Peter Cummings will take over the captaincy.

"Peter had done well in recent games. On the batting side we know if we can stay in play with 10 overs to play we can bring Peter in he can do some damage."

Makinson added: "Blackpool have been on a good run of form this season and most sides will be probably shocked to find them second in the league.

"It is going to be a difficult test against them as I think both teams are similar as they have strength in depth down their batting order.

"On the bowling side they have a few seamers and a good spinner so we will be evenly matched."

The former Lancashire ace is hoping for more big performances by his batsmen after impressive displays against Chorley.

He will be using his time away in Malta as time to recharge his batteries after a testing start to the season.
