Brig boss vows: I'll be tougher

Bamber Bridge manager Phil Entwistle has said he won't be afraid to make tough decisions in the forthcoming season.
This will be Entwistle's second full season in charge of the Irongate outfit and he insists he won't shirk from making tough decisions.

He stressed everyone starts the new campaign with a clean slate but admitted there were certainly aspects of last year that he regrets.

Without going into detail about what happened he said: "Last season was my first full season in charge and I learnt a lot about myself.

"Maybe if I'd done things differently we could have got automatic promotion.

"When I've got to make tough decisions and I've got to face up to players I'll be true to myself.

"People have got to be up for it."

Brig lost their first pre-season friendly on Saturday against Fulwood Amateurs 1-0 and the manager changed the full team at half time.

In the close season Entwistle has been busy pursuing his passion for repairing classic scooters such as Vespas and Lambrettas and he's now looking to fine tune his players.

"Last season we could never just lose one game," he said. "We'd lose three or four on the trot and that hurt us.

"This year if we get beaten we have to take it on the chin and bounce back and I've signed some experienced players."

Last season Brig faced a massive backlog of fixtures in the crucial last week of the campaign - particularly because of their cup exploits.

The Irongate manager said: "By the end of the season there wasn't a lot left in the tank of some of the players.

"Their priority this season is the league, FA Cup, FA Trophy and whatever comes after that."

Entwistle admits he's still hurting over the manner of last season's 3-2 play-off defeat to FC Utd.

"I want the scar to still be there," he said. "We were the better team on the night but I want the scar to still be there for the new season. Not because I want it to affect the players' confidence but because I want the lads to avoid that feeling again."
