A Pedestrian is fighting for his life after suffering serious head injuries in an accident in Leyland.
The 47-year-old from Clayton Brook, who has not been named, was crossing Wigan Road near the junction of Lancaster Lane when he was involved in a collision with a silver Ford Focus C-Max travelling towards Euxton at around 9.15pm on Saturday, January 30.

He was rushed to Royal Preston Hospital with severe head injuries, a broken leg and a broken collar bone.

On Monday, hospital officials said he remained in 'critical condition.'

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the accident, which happened close to the traffic lights at the Hayrick pub.

Sgt Dave Tonge, from Lancashire Constabulary, said: "An investigation into this collision is now underway and we are trying to establish exactly what happened. I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision to contact police."

A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust said they arrived at the scene at around 9.20pm and said the victim suffered 'multiple injuries.'

An onlooker, who asked not to be named, said: "I drove past the scene at around 10pm and the road was closed.

"There were at least seven police cars and a large riot van - it was clearly a major incident.

"By that time there was no sign of an ambulance but the traffic was heavily backed up along Lancaster Lane and on Wigan Road."

Anybody with any information should contact police on 01772 614444 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
