A Leyland sports star is set to swap her tennis racket for the microphone as she bids for pop stardom.
Alix Oakes, of Edale Close, is one of the region's top players but she's looking to pit her wits against the likes of Girls Aloud for a place at the top of the charts.

The 22-year-old said: "I have to pinch myself at how quick everything has gone - I only joined the band last month and we are on the verge of the big time. It is difficult to try to manage my time between tennis and this but this is my dream and nothing is going to stop me."

Alix caught the eye when she was crowned Miss Preston in 2007 but the management team of pop group Addictive Girlz decided she had star quality after she applied to an advert with the talent agency Starnow in June.
