The finance boss of a major leisure company has spoken of the importance of its Coppull site to the future development of the business.
The former Barrons Group which owned the caravan/motorhome sales and accessories business in Chapel Lane was taken over by Discover Leisure last year.
Yet despite a difficult trading time for the massive leisure company, group finance director Nei
l Harwood, who came over from Barrons, has spoken of the positive future of the Coppull site which is 'a 'substantial part of a major player in the leisure industry'.
The Coppull base has now become the hub of the accounting department for the whole of Discover Leisure, seeing an increase in the number of jobs, IT is also run from Coppull and the site itself is undergoing a major £350,000 overhaul as the former caravan accessories shop is transformed into an all encompassing leisure outlet.
Mr Harwood said: "Discover Leisure was an AIM listed business with access to more funding whilst Barrons was privately owned which has its limitations in terms of taking the business forward.
"There have been a lot of changes. Coppull was the head office of Barrons and the head office of Discover Leisure is in east Yorkshire, however, administratively a lot of Discover is done from Coppull.
"The accounting department at Barrons has become the accounting centre for the whole group and we have increased the number of people from 11 to 20. Barrons had an excellent IT infrastructure which now manages the group and we have started the process of building a new shop.
"We are investing £350,000, a significant investment, into that site and the expansion of the shop will bring additional leisure opportunities.
"We have 120 people employed in Coppull, the site has been there since the beginning of the 1980s and is extremely well known in the North West.
"It has a positive future and is classed by Discover Leisure as a grade A site."
